New Survey Shows Seniors are Healthier and More Physically Active than Most People Think

LOUISVILLE, KY - July 16, 2007 - A new survey of the fitness and exercise habits of people over the age of 50 reveals that seniors are more physically active than most people think. Given common assumptions about baby boomers and seniors, the results were somewhat surprising in that this group is generally healthy and physically active. Of those polled, 97 percent say they are in good, very good or excellent health and 45 percent consider themselves above average in physical fitness. Respondents believe that exercising is beneficial in improving and maintaining their health and fitness levels, with 42 percent noting that they look or feel better as a result of physical activity. Seniors can still enroll in Medicare health plans, even after May 15 deadline

LOUISVILLE, KY - Jun 1, 2006 - Although the May 15 Medicare prescription drug plan (PDP) enrollment deadline has passed, many seniors eligible for Medicare may still enroll through June 30 in Medicare Advantage plans. These plans offer comprehensive medical benefits and may help seniors save money on prescription drugs. After June 30, the ability to enroll in Medicare health plan will be limited to those who meet certain criteria specified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) until the next enrollment period, which begins November 15, 2006.  (more)

Humana extends Medicare prescription drug transition policy for new enrollees

LOUISVILLE, KY - Jan 26, 2006 - When the Medicare Part D plans took effect Jan. 1, 2006, Humana implemented a transition plan for new prescription drug plan enrollees as they began using their Humana Medicare prescription drug benefit for the first time. Those impacted were enrollees with prescriptions for certain classes of drugs which would normally have required prior authorization or so-called "step therapy" before being approved. The transition policy allowed a 30-day grace period during which the plan member was not subject to those requirements. (more)

Humana expects January 1 Medicare enrollment to top 1.7 million
