Humana Expands Medicare Coverage in Northeast Wisconsin
New Local PPO Now Available for People with Medicare
GREEN BAY, Wis. - November 12, 2007 - Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced today the expansion of its Medicare presence in Northeast Wisconsin, including Brown, Manitowoc, Outagamie, Shawano, Sheboygan and Winnebago counties. Beginning on Nov. 15, seniors in those counties can enroll in a new, local HumanaChoicePPO plan for 2008.
The expansion, approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, builds upon Humana's other Medicare plans currently available in Northeast Wisconsin, as the company focuses on providing greater choice to meet the changing needs of people with Medicare.
The HumanaChoicePPO is a Medicare Advantage plan that provides seniors with an affordable alternative to original Medicare or a Medicare supplement plan. Members have the flexibility to select a provider or facility of choice either in or out of network, although out-of-network benefits are reduced. The plan also offers unlimited generic medication coverage and low copays for in-network physician office visits.
"As baby boomers and individuals with Medicare age, their insurance needs change. We're committed to updating our Medicare product offerings to meet them where they are," said Richard Dahl, Medicare director for Humana's Wisconsin market. "We've listened to people with Medicare and have used our experience in health benefits to give them more options to fit their needs. With each local PPO customized for a specific market, we can better tailor our product offerings to the preferences of Medicare members."
Available for a $20 monthly premium, the new PPO plan includes money-saving features, like coverage of vision, dental and hearing services, access to Humana's 24-hour nurse support service called HumanaFirst, and a member-assistance program designed to help members live active, fulfilled lives. The plan also includes membership in the SilverSneakers Fitness Program, designed especially for seniors, at no additional charge.
Those eligible for Medicare throughout Northeast Wisconsin continue to have the choice of Humana's private fee-for-service plan, Humana Gold Choice, which offers members nationwide medical coverage; regional HumanaChoicePPO plans; and stand-alone Part D prescription drug plans.
Humana Medicare Advantage is an alternative to original Medicare, not a supplement. For more information about enrolling in any Humana plans, visit Humana-Medicare.com or call toll-free 1-800-833-6578.
