Purpose of Special Needs Plans

Medicare special needs plans provide more focused and specialized healthcare for people who require health benefits tailored to their specific needs and conditions. The plans are available to Medicare beneficiaries who have chronic, severe or disabling medical conditions. They also serve those who have both Medicare and Medicaid coverage. Special needs plans are also available to those who live in certain types of institutions (such as nursing homes).

Who Can Enroll in a Special Needs Plan?

Medicare-approved special needs plans are available to anyone who meets the specific eligibility requirements of the plan, and is enrolled in both Medicare Part A and Part B through age or disability.
